Location

Its location in the foothills of El Avila, gives the Metropolitan University a privileged space.

The institution has spacious and comfortable facilities that facilitate the development of academic activities and, as part of the appropriate physical environment for learning, the university has four modules of classrooms, a service building, the Corimon laboratory building and the Eugenio Mendoza Goiticoa building.

On the campus of the Metropolitan University, there are also the Center for Extension, Executive Development and Organizational Consulting (CENDECO), the Pedro Grases Library, the Arturo Uslar Pietri Center for Latin American Studies (CELAUP), and the auditoria Manoa, Julio Sosa Rodríguez, Francesca Pensieri and Polar Foundation. The Luisa Rodríguez de Mendoza assembly hall is also part of the available amphitheaters for academic and cultural activities at Unimet. The exhibition and meeting rooms complement the spaces of this institution.

Office of the Rector

Office of the Rector

The Rector is in charge of leading and coordinating the development of university activities—in accordance with the institutional principles—and ensuring their fulfillment. Likewise, after previously considering the opinion of the Academic Council, he appoints deans, school and service directors, heads of department, and members of the teaching or research staff. Additionally, in consultation with the Administrative Vice Rector, he appoints the administrative staff. Another of his powers is to confer degrees and issue certificates of competence—once the legal requirements are met—which are conferred by the university and duly endorsed by the Secretary.

The Rector also presents the requested reports to the Superior Council, delivers disciplinary actions in accordance with the regulatory dispositions, and maintains relations with authorities, official bodies, and official and private institutions.

Directorate of University Strategic Planning

The purpose of the directorate is to plan the elaboration, monitor and control of the strategic and operational plans of the university, in order to promote and boost their short, medium, and long-term integration in the academic, administrative and organizational fields. Likewise, it is responsible of evaluating the fulfillment of the institution’s goals by making periodic measurements of management indicators and by advising the university authorities in the process of decision-making while considering the national and global context.

Directorate of Integrated Communications

Directorate of Integrated Communications

The Directorate of Integrated Communications (DCI) of the Metropolitan University is a unit attached to the Rectorate, and responsible for the development of plans, programs, and projects aimed at ensuring a communications management that encompasses external and internal communications, institutional image and identity, marketing, and public relations.

Among the available informative media are the following:

The DCI also ensures compliance with the established guidelines for the proper development of the corporate image, and is responsible for the development of audiovisual, multimedia and graphic design pieces.

Likewise, it coordinates the school visits program, which provides information on the university application process, and provides vocational guidance support to high school students from public and private institutions. It also participates in educational fairs and events aimed at students and professionals in graduate programs.

Directorate of Institutional Relations

Unit attached to the Rectorate and responsible for the promotion and strengthening of the relationships between the university and its academic, social, and business environment. It promotes the creation and strengthening of cooperation links with public and private institutions and organizations, as well as the development of the image of Unimet (nationally and internationally) through the establishment of agreements, projects and participation in networks.

Legal Consulting

Legal Consulting

Organizational and technical unit specialized in the coordination, planning, analysis and execution of various activities of legal nature, within the Venezuelan regulatory framework, and with special emphasis in the matters that are of particular importance for the operation of private universities in Venezuela.

Among its functions, the unit is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, supervising and evaluating activities of legal nature that are inherent to the university. It studies and writes documents, minutes, communications and memoranda of legal nature that are related to activities of the university; gives opinions of legal nature that are required by the competent authorities; studies and elaborates projects of rules and regulations necessary for the operation of the university; and analyzes and drafts inter-institutional cooperation agreements. It also analyzes and drafts employee and service contracts; conducts matters related to internal disciplinary procedures; and, when required, it advises the governing authorities of the university, as well as the decision-making bodies, and evaluates queries. Additionally, the unit handles the administrative and judicial cases against the university—pursued in the different administrative instances and courts—in defense of the rights and interests of the institution. This includes procedures before public and private bodies.

Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy

SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL CHAPEL

Founded and donated to the university by the Sosa-Branger family, the chapel was consecrated in July 1993 by Card. José Alí Lebrún Moratinos, Archbishop of Caracas, who entrusted it to the pastoral care of the Legionaries of Christ to serve spiritually the Catholic community of the Metropolitan University. The chaplain appointed, Fr. Omar Ramírez LC, provides the typical services of a university chaplain: Administration of the sacraments; evangelization through courses, talks, retreats, debates, among others; individual spiritual orientation, and organization of community activities.

The chapel is dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel for being the captain in the fight against the Devil and all his wiles, protector and special example for the youth who want be faithful to God, in midst of the spiritual battles of human life. It has some notable works of art, like “The Descent” (large charcoal on canvas by José Barbas), “Saint Michael the Archangel” (large bronze sculpture, cast in Milan by María Gamundi), “Crucifix” (colonial, anonymous), and a fine woodwork by Jesús Beltrán. The project is work of the architect Massimo Ruggiero.

Office of the Academic Vice Rector

The Academic Vice Rector coordinates the academic, scientific and technological activities of the university with the production and service sectors. Additionally, she oversees the teaching, extension and research activities, as well as the bodies in charge of carrying out these functions.

Likewise, she is in charge of guiding the extracurricular training activities and library services, and ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations applicable to academic functions and staff.

Administrative Vice Rector

Administrative Vice Rector

The Office of the Academic Vice Rector is the body of financial and administrative support of the university. The bodies attached to this Office are in charge of managing the administration of human resources, maintenance and development of the facilities, logistical services and telecommunications, conservation and protection of the university’s assets, as well as all accounting and financial processes. For the administrative management of the financial resources, the Office works along Unimet Services, FUNDAMET and FAJA. Among her responsibilities, the Administrative Vice Rector is in charge of preparing the annual budget plans, as well as monitoring and controlling their execution. In order to achieve it, she has the support of a financial advisor, who is in charge of the economic and financial evaluation of the proposed services and management indicators, and a financial manager for fundraising management.

Center for Technology, Information and Communications (CeTIC)

As an Information Technology Center, its objective is to provide support to the entire Unimetan community, providing technological solutions as well as ensuring security and trust in its services. The Center’s staff is defined by their ethics, excellence and professionalism; they are committed to make a permanent effort to respond efficiently to the technological needs of the Unimetan community members, and to the ever-changing realities of the national and international environment.

In addition, the Center uses the SAP system to carry out all the processes that students, professors, other bodies of the university, and external entities, may require.

Directorate of Infrastructure and Services

Its main purpose is to guarantee a physical plant with adequate, comfortable and safe areas for all members of the university community, and that allow the normal functioning of academic and administrative activities.

Its work focuses on the proposal of strategies, elaboration of plans and projects related to the preservation and consolidation of the physical plant. It also carries out programs for the improvement and expansion of the faculty zone in the university, determined by the short-term to medium-term operational plans that are closely related to the academic plans.

Institutional Information Management Unit

The unit is a body attached to the Office of the General Secretary and its mission is to manage —in a timely, valid and reliable way— information related to processes inherent to the university. The objective is to boost decision-making, contribute to the improvement of the processes, and respond to the changing realities of the university as well as the national and international context.

The main purpose of the unit is to provide technical, statistical and strategic information, which will be use as basis for policymaking, decision-making, prioritization, focalization on actions, and creation of plans that meet the needs of internal and external users. Likewise, it must guarantee the information integrity, availability, reliability, confidentiality and quality, through the selection, organization, analysis, design, optimization, evaluation and dissemination processes.

Avila Project

Avila Project

Since 2000, the Avila Project of the Metropolitan University, aware of its commitment to the Waraira Repano National Park, has been making various efforts aimed at promoting the conservation of the protected area, deploying various efforts of research and environmental conservation, through a multidisciplinary group of experts. From that moment on, it committed to strengthen the Unimet as an institution of high environmental responsibility and commitment before society.

The regional offices of the Metropolitan University, located in Lecheria and Puerto La Cruz, have fully equipped classrooms as well as administrative and service areas. Both offices offer certificate programs and courses that are open to the public or through the in-company training modality. Additionally, the Puerto La Cruz office also offers graduate programs.
